Serum may be the hardest-working product in your routine. The best ones deliver powerful concentrations of ingredients that target specific skin concerns. Here’s how to do them right.
WHAT THEY DO
Consider serum the workhorse of your product lineup. With a thinner viscosity than other products and smaller molecules designed to penetrate better into the skin, facial serums deliver the most change in aging concerns like wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and skin laxity.
WHAT’S INSIDE
Quality serums go heavy on ingredients like retinol, vitamin C, alpha hydroxy acids, peptides and plant stem cells (and contain minimal fluff or fillers.)
WHEN DO I USE THEM?

Antioxidant serums are great for both morning and evening; others (like those with retinol or salicylic acid) do best as nighttime-only options. When in doubt, follow the directions on your serum’s packaging.
If you layer, do it right: Apply water-based serums under oil-based formulas for optimal results.
